High Distinction

Featuring Ruby Lucas

Artist Statement

This Artwork is a parody on fashion photography. It aims to satirically highlight the unusual positions and forms the models pose in, which draws more attention to the model rather than the clothes they are wearing. When this occurs, it takes on the form of portraiture. The model here is captured in her natural form, with minimal editing and simple light, to critique the over-smoothed, perfected images that have been labeled toxic in today's society. With instructions to mock the fashion industry, the model was left to pose as she pleased. The relationship between the model and photographer is close, which made the ability to capture her in a comfortable, relaxed and humorous way easy and successful.

This project was a great way for me to experiment with lighting and somewhat commercial-style photography in a studio environment. I like the aesthetic of fashion and cosmetic photography. It was a pleasure composing this with my friend.
